The Case for Executive Assimilation

The Case for Executive Assimilation

August 26, 2015
As of today we have published a few posts on executive assimilation. Last week, for example, we wrote about the top challenge of executive assimilation. A few months ago, we published a case study around how a Fortune 200 executive used 9Lenses software to accelerate her assimilation. Our former CTO, Ed Cohen, has also shared his thoughts about how the onboarding conundrum can be solved. But what we haven’t done so far is really make the case for why Executive Assimilation is an essential process that the HR departments need to address.  HR departments today are assuming a more strategic role in their organizations, becoming more data-driven and using people analytics to make key strategic decisions. As a result, the conventional, highly manual onboarding and orientation processes have become inadequate. We compiled a list of statistics that point towards the fact that HR practices associated with executive onboarding [...]
The Forgotten Customer Segment

The Forgotten Customer Segment

Everywhere you turn in the business world, you hear of job titles such as Customer Service Executive, Customer Success Manager, Customer Advocacy Director, and even Customer Happiness Officer (yes, a real designation)! Read any publications offline and online (including our blog), and you will see numerous articles and blog posts about how to acquire customers, keep customers happy, retain customers, and how to make customers your advocates for your business. Popular companies such as Rackspace, Zappos, Wistia, and Southwest are relentless about their customer success efforts, and that focus has had a profound impact on brand awareness, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. This focus on customer service and success is hugely positive – after all, we are all customers in some capacity to different businesses or brands. But here’s the caveat:most of us also work for many of these businesses or brands. Then why do we rarely see [...]

The Top Challenge of Executive Assimilation- Gaining Understanding

The business world mostly seems to concur that executive assimilation is a formidable process. According to a study quoted in the Harvard Business Review, 87% of the senior HR professionals queried agreed that leadership transition, or executive assimilation, was the most challenging time in a professional’s career. 70% agreed that the success of an executive’s onboarding will go on to set the tone for the rest of his or her tenure in that organization. In an article for Fortune magazine, author Anne Fisher states that 40% of leaders leave a company within their first 18 months. Another article by the Harvard Business Review states that on average, leaders take over six months to reach the “breaking-even” point where they are contributing to the company as much as they are receiving from it. There is little doubt that effective new leader assimilation is a critical part of an organization’s overall success. Because new executives [...]
Getting People Analytics Right with Digital Dialogue

Getting People Analytics Right with Digital Dialogue

August 11, 2015
Big data—yes, it is that term again—is here to stay. There is a change, however, in the way big data is now being discussed. People are no longer characterizing big data as the best thing to happen to the business world, and big data no longer sits on the pedestal it once did. The business world is now gradually warming up to a new buzz term “people analytics,” which is essentially a more human subset of big data. The term is taking the corporate world, and especially the human capital management space, by storm. This powerful new category of data analytics is often touted as HR’s weapon of choice for reclaiming its seat in the boardroom. People analytics is also credited with bringing back human data to the decision-making process, as opposed to solely relying on machine data for making business decisions. In simple terms, people analytics is the [...]
